Save Dessert for Later

I can’t believe I said that, but I mean it.

I had today’s post all kind of figured out in my head.  You guys were going to learn all about the joys of Banoffee, one of my favorite desserts ever.

Then I came home (half day today) and watched Life in a Day on Netflix.

Have you ever seen a movie that really got to you?  Because this one totally got to me.  It’s basically a bunch of clips sent in from all over the world, of people filming their life on July 24, 2010.  Ok, I thought…big deal, right?  A look into people’s lives.  But you guys – it’s so nuts.

The movie itself was good.  It asked three questions: What do you love, what do you fear, and what is in your pocket.  Then everyone on the planet answers them.  We’re all so different.  I mean, we’re all exactly the same – we love our family, we’re scared of spiders, blah blah blah.  But SO MUCH STUFF is happening every day.  No matter where you are on the planet, someone else is doing exactly what you’re doing, and someone else is doing something you’ll never do in your life.  Someone is kissing their baby, and someone else is slitting a goat’s throat.  Someone is falling asleep, and someone is waking up to gunfire.  Someone is grumbling about having to go to work, and someone can’t get a job because who would look after his motherless children?

This was all very eye-opening and all, but at the end of the day, we’re human and what we think is how am I involved in all of this?

For me it was an easy, but terrifying answer.

What I love and what I fear are exactly the same thing.

family

This is everything, you guys. Everything.

There is nothing on the planet that I love more than my family.  Nothing.  No $5000 boots, no winning lottery tickets, no fulfilling career, it’s THEM.  And there is nothing that scares me more than losing them.  I think part of what kept me carefree and single for so long was the avoidance of these exact bonds.  It’s easy to be fearless when you’re solo.  But now I know fear – TRUE fear.  Because I couldn’t wake up if it wasn’t for them.

I don’t give a shit about what’s in my pocket, because I know what’s in my heart.
